If you get your hair or nails done at a spa-type place, there's certainly a certain feeling at these places.
"Well, we want every man to feel relaxed and at home and comfortable in their environment," says Gene Juarez men’s designer Heather "Quinn" Mercer.
The environment and the high-end treatment costs more but apparently that's not a problem in a recession.
"We're still doing very well," says Capelli’s Gentlemen’s Barber Shop owner Simone Loban. "Men still need to have their hair cut."
Loban also recognizes the value of offering a deal so at Capelli's you can get the executive membership for $450.
"Sixteen haircuts in a year," says Loban. "So, basically, every 3-and-a-half weeks a gentleman can get his hair cut. It's $160 savings in a year."
On the other hand, you can do like Brian Sutherland. He’s a good looking guy. An actor, actually. We bumped into him on the street and he told us that when it comes to grooming, he likes to take the cheap route. v
"The one thing I've been doing lately is I went to, actually, a barber shop and bought my own hair trimmer set for $10 and so now I just give myself my own haircut," he said.
That is the very least you need for grooming.
"You can hide your hands and you can hide your feet but everyone sees your hair," says Loban.
But what if you want a manicure? At Capelli's, by the way, they spell it capital M-A-N-icure. What does a guy get for Capelli’s $20 MANicure?
"Well we clip, file, push the cuticles back. Sometimes clip them back, which gives them a little bit of shine. And then oil, which is very moisturizing and you get lotion with a hand and arm massage," says Loban.
Again, on the other hand, said our actor friend Brian: "I don't really do anything like that. I've had manicures and pedicures but i think that's just a waste of money."
